In the Summer of 1980, the "1st International Mushroom Dyes Textile Show
- FUNGI and FIBERS", was announced, co-sponsored by the Mendocino County Museum
and the Mendocino Art Center Textile Apprenticeship Program. It was held from
June 8 - June 20, 1980 at the Mendocino Art Center. (The exhibit had now
become "international" because of a weaving contributed from Canada!)
Since then, mushroom dye fiber artists from all over the world
have gathered every two years to have an exhibit, hold workshops and
forums, sharing new discoveries about fungi pigments and papermaking. Each event is
hosted by a different country. The last one (July 2003) was held in Denmark, Western Australia,
and the next one, in 2005 will be held in Copenhagen, Denmark!
