Trajan Decius Silver Coins
of Unknown Origin

Uncertain Mints and Ancient Forgeries.
I really like ancient imitations from this period.  If you like this topic,
I highly recommend visiting Warren Esty's "Ancient
Imitations" web site (he sells coins and ancient coin catalogs and is a real
gentleman).

		| unlisted | IMP C DECIVS AVG  Bust R., radiate,  cuirassed | Apparently unique billon antoninianus with legend that
omits TRAINVS.  It was speculated on the FORVM discussion board
that this could have been  struck during the very short time
before the title was conferred by the Senate.  That would be a
prize indeed! But it seems unlikely
since there are no other coins of this legend and Decius is not likely to
have started his coinage with low silver content, but in any case it is
one of the most interesting coins of Decius.  The engraving is of
high quality, not like one sees for barbarous coins (Rupert Pflaum
		collection). | | |

		| Similar to 45 | IMP CMQ TRAIANVS DECIUS AVG Bust radiate, draped, cuirassed  r. | Same obverse die as coin above!  The obverse looks
like Rome (notice the legend goes all the way under the bust which never
happens at Antioch) but the reverse is crude.  RMB collection. | | |
