Continuing the work on the interior. The interior was already pretty
nice. The wood grain inserts on the door panels was worn off, so I covered
it up with contact paper. I roughly cut out a strip of the contact paper,
stuck it in place on the door panel, and then trimmed it with a razor blade.
It did not look like it was going to come out very well while I was doing
it, but once it was in the car, it looked pretty good. I am still looking
for some contact paper with a wood pattern that matches up to the instrument
panel better..
Here it is installed in the car.
Here is a shot of the dashboard from the drivers point of view. I have been doing a lot of cleaning in here, that is all that it really needed.
Here is the head unit for the stereo, a Kenwood KRC 2007. I chose this
because it is often mentioned as a unit that fits Novas well. In this Nova,
it did not fit so well, the face plate had to be trimmed to fit in under
the wood grain trim. In a Nova without the wood grain trim, this would
not be a problem. Also, the nose piece of the unit is a little bit too
tall to fit in the opening, and required a little bit of plastic grinding
to fit in. The nose piece is still a little bit crunched from the tight
space. The shaft spacing is not the same as the original radio either,
but the shafts do go in through the original holes because they are large
holes.
It sounds good, and I really like the digital tuning. I consider the
digital tuning to be an essential safety feature, you can tune the radio
easily while driving.
Here are the seats. They are recovered in the original Rattan pattern
vinyl seating surface and Madrid grain vinyl sides. The original
seats were used as patterns for the new covers. Minaglias auto uhpolstery
in Healdsburg did the work.
They look great. They are comfortable too. I do wish the angle of the
seat backs was adjustable, they make you sit a little bit too upright.
I am getting used to it though.
