Chai is good...

Hmm. Chai is really, really good stuff. I need to watch out, though... I had only two cups of it this morning, and now I've got caffeine jitters. I'll have to limit myself to one cup per day, or at least one cup every few hours. This is a rather potent little brew.

In a sense, that's a good thing for you... If you were like me and reacted to caffeine by relaxing, you'd *really* be addicted to it. Like me.

PS I guess this invalidates your comment a while back that tea has little-to-no caffeine? *snicker*

Big time. *chuckle* I could have sworn I learned in health class in high school that tea was a low-caffeine beverage... maybe my memory's playing tricks on me, or maybe there are different teas with different caffeine levels. Dunno. Whatever it is, chai definitely does *not* fall into the "low caffeine" category.

Take a look at this:

some are heavily caffeinated, some aren't.

Yeah, it depends on which kind of tea. Some have much more caffeine than coffee.

So do you guys make your own chai or buy it pre-made? I used to make my own chai back when I was still doing caffeine and it's truly light-years beyond anything I've gotten pre-packaged or in a commercial restaurant/coffee shop.

There's a down side, though. Making chai from scratch spoiled me and I couldn't enjoy anyone else's afterwards (other than a couple of super-authentic ethnic restaurants in Chicago that made their chai from scratch as well.)

Right now, I'm using instant powder. I'm currently enjoying something of a "vacation" from my usual beverage, Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee, which requires extensive preparation (I grind my own beans). I'll probably start experimenting with brewing my own eventually, but for right now, I'm feeling lazy/relieved and the ease of preparation.

powdered chai *shudder* gross!

If you actually like it, you might not want to experiment. You'll never be able to drink that crap again after you've tried real chai and then you'll be cursing me for taking away the convenience.

If the difference between powdered chai and "real" chai is anything like the difference between powdered coffee and fresh ground coffee, you're almost certainly right. Please let me live in my fantasy world for a while. *chuckle*
