And now for something completely different.

I knew I should have kept my mouth shut. Lately, it seems like whenever I say anything whatsoever, regardless of how noncontroversial it might appear to be, I always end up getting into trouble. Right now, I could probably say that water is wet and end up receiving a prison sentence.

In an ongoing, desperate effort to find a topic that won't generate a spat, I offer a little something that I've had on the back burner for a while. Denise and I have a game that we play every once in a while where I name certain celebrities that most women find attractive, and she tells me what she thinks. Personally, I think that Tom Welling is one of the most handsome men out there today (but only when he shaves; when he lets his beard grow, he's really repulsive). Denise doesn't find him appealing at all and thinks I'm better looking than he is. I'll only concede that I have better teeth than he does... Tom Welling really needs braces, and not in a minor way, either. :^)

We agreed to solicit some other opinions, so please have a gander at the two photos and feel free to comment.

Me

Tom Welling

I think you should post a newer picture of yourself... I really like that one, but it hasn't been an accurate representation of you in a long time.

(I also don't think you should be blaming yourself for two other people not getting along. You weren't the one posting abusive shit.)

I don't look *that* different now from how I do in the photo... I have lost quite a bit of weight since then, and I have a little more gray in my hair, but other than that, it's about the same. The only thing *I* don't like about that photo is that I'm not clean-shaven -- for those who may not know, I typically shave three days a week (Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays), and that photo was taken on a Saturday afternoon. A lighter background would also be helpful.

It's not a question of blaming myself. I'm upset for other reasons.

Grow the mustache back. Be lucky, many people don't look good with mustaches. I tried it, and I looked like (ugh) John Waters.

Keep in mind, I have fairly severe prosopagnosia: to me, you looked like a totally different person now from the one in that picture even a mere 6 months later, let alone 1.5 years later! The last visit was a bit scary because the only thing I could recognize about you at all was your voice and stims, as everything else (face, body, scent, hair) had changed too much.

No, I won't grow the mustache back... I liked it back then, but mustache days are done... I prefer the clean-shaven look.

As to your prosopagnosia, Moggy, yes, I remember that, of course... but I guess I overestimated it. I would have thought that would mean you wouldn't recognize me in pretty much *any* photograph of me you looked at unless you knew it was me. :-) Nevertheless, I agree, it's time for a new photo... once I get a trim, I'll take one.

WTF? I didn't say I would recognize you. I said I *don't* recognize you.

Yea - that and mustaches are a bi*ch to keep. I used to loathe it when snot froze to it in the winter. . . .yucky

Umm, I thought that was what I said -- that you wouldn't know that was a photograph of me at all if you hadn't seen it before or if you didn't otherwise already know it was me.

Maybe I didn't say it right? I notice that when the negatives in sentences start piling up, I tend to have some confusion in that area pretty quickly, much the same way I usually get pronouns confused if there are three or more of them in a sentence. (Sometimes I have pronoun trouble even when there are fewer than three of them in a sentence, for that matter.)

Look up above -- you said you thought you had overestimated it, meaning that you thought it was more severe than it is. Then you gave an example of how bad you thought it was, but your example was identical to reality. So I was pointing out in response that you aren't overestimating the severity at all.
