And so, two days after we announced our "grand opening", I have just received my first candle order, for two pairs of votives.
I'm reminded of James T. Kirk's first log entry during his first starship captaincy, early on in his career.
I gave the order to set course and engage the warp drive. Starfleet was sending us to drop off some supplies at one particular colony. It was nothing but a milk run.
My first ship. My first command.
No Saurian brandy is quite so heady.
My first "real" candles. My first sale.
No Saurian brandy is quite so heady.
:-)
There's still a bit of work to do, but Denise and I think we're close enough to being done that we're going to say that Knight Scents is now open for business! Please visit the site, have a look around... if you have suggestions for the site, please feel free. And by all means... buy some candles, and pass the link along to anyone whom you think would be interested. :-)
Short term issues: Putting up a photo for the medium jar candles (which we'll be taking care of shortly, hopefully within the next couple of days or so) and making a "group photo" of several different candles for the main page (ditto on the time frame).
Once that's done, we want to rearrange the way the fragrances are listed. The way it is right now is functional, but we want to sort them by category instead of just alphabetically -- we'll have a section for florals, a section for baked goods, and so on. We'll get started on that once we're done with the photos.
Once more, a public "thank you" to Denise for all the hard work she did helping me put this site up, even though she'd say most of it was easy. And also for giving me moral support during times when the code was misbehaving.
There is one minor thing that's still niggling at me, even though it's not a big deal... when I run the pages thru the W3C Markup Validation Service, I get some funny error messages that I can't quite pin down... I have a suspicion that it's got something to do with nesting form elements and table tags improperly, but I haven't been able to identify the problem. Not a big deal, since the pages are formatting properly and the shopping cart forms are behaving correctly, but I do wonder what in the world is going on. If anyone looking at the code sees what the issue is, I'd appreciate being enlightened.
Whew!
