MacTCP 2.0.6
Prior to the release of System 7.6, the Macitosh operating system required additional software to create a TCP/IP connection. MacTCP 2.0.6 is one of the most widely used TCP/IP packages for such Macs. This document contains recommended settings for TCP/IP in Macintosh systems 7.1 - 7.5.3.
-
To configure MacTCP, open the Apple menu, select Control Panels, and click on "MacTCP."
-
Select the PPP icon. The listed IP Address should be "0.0.0.0" if you are not currently connected to the internet. Click the button labeled "More..."
-
Make sure all of your network settings are properly configured.
- For "Obtain Address" select "Server."
- "Routing Information" should display a Gateway Address of "0.0.0.0." If this isn't the case, set "Obtain Address" to "Manually" and delete the listed Gateway Address. After doing so, set "Obtain Address" back to "Server."
- For "IP Address," Class A should be selected (actually you will be connected on a Class C, but there is a known bug in MacTCP that makes Class A the preferred selection).
For "Domain Name Server Information":
- Enter the Domain "sonic.net" and IP address 208.201.224.11 on the first line. This should be marked as the default.
- In the second line enter the Domain "." and IP Address "208.201.224.11."
- In the third line enter Domain "sonic.net" and IP Address "208.201.224.33."
- In the fourth line enter Domain "." and IP address "208.201.224.33."
