Eudora 5.2 Setup in Mac OS X and OS 9
After installing Eudora 5.2 per the instructions on the Eudora Website, double click on your Eudora icon.
Eudora will ask you if you want to store your password in your OS X keychain. Select "yes."
Eudora will ask you if you want to import settings and mail from another email application. If you are switching to Eudora from another mail program, you may want to say "yes" to simplify the setup process. This tutorial assumes that you have said "no," a nd that you're setting up Eudora to check your Sonic.net email address.
- Click on the "Special" menu and select "Settings."
- First, you'll want to fill out the "Getting Started" information.
- Put your Sonic.net username in the field labeled "Username"
- The "Mail Server" should be "pop.sonic.net"
- The "Real Name" can be anything you like, and can contain numbers, spaces, uppercase and lowercase letters.
- The "SMTP Server" is "mail.sonic.net"
- "Return Address" should be your Sonic.net email address.
- Next, you'll want to fill out the "Checking Mail" information.
- Make sure that the "Mail Protocol" is set to "POP" and "Authentication" is set to "Passwords."
- If you do not want to type in your password each time you check your email, check the "Save Password" box.
- If you would like Eudora to automatically check for mail while the program is open, check the box labeled "Check for mail every XX minutes" and replace the "XX" with a number. 10 minutes is an acceptable amount of time between checks. Checking for new mail every minute can be abusive of Sonic.net system resources.
- Under "Mail Management," if you would like to be able to receive the mail in an email client on another computer, you may want to check "Leave on server for XX days." 7 days is generally an acceptable amount of time. 365 days is can be abusive of Sonic.net system resources.
- All other fields are optional.
- Lastly, you'll want to fill out the "Sending Mail" information.
- If you would like to have your mail account authenticated on Sonic.net's SMTP server when you send mail, check the box labeled "Allow Authorization. You generally only need to do this if you are trying to send mail to mail.sonic.net while connected to another ISP's network.
- All of the other fields are optional.
