Mac OS X:
Setting up Dialup Access
OS 10.1.5 shown
- To begin setting up your sonic.net connection, click on the Apple menu,
and select "System Preferences..."
- Once the System Preferences window loads, click on "Network" to load the
Network Preferences.
- In the Network Preferences pane, set location to "Automatic," and set
Show to
"Internal Modem." Set Configure to "use PPP." The "Domain Name Servers" are
208.201.224.11 and 208.201.224.33. The "Search Domain" should be "sonic.net"
When you've entered this, click on the "PPP" tab.
- In the PPP tab, Service Provider should be "Sonic.net."
Use the pop finder
to find a telephone number. The Account name is your sonic.net account name
followed by "@sonic.net",
and the password is your sonic.net password. If you don't want to have to
type in
your password everytime you connect, check the "save password" box.
- If you would like to change the PPP options, click on the "PPP Options"
button,
and make changes there. If you want to automatically connect to Sonic.net
when
you open your web browser, or email program, or any TCP/IP application, make
sure that "Connect automatically when starting TCP/IP applications" is
checked.
If it's unchecked, you will have to connect manually using the
Internet Connect
application. Click "OK" to exit PPP Options.
- By default, the proxy settings tab is blank. Sonic.net does not require
proxy settings.
Leave these blank.
- If you ever need to change your internal modem protocol from V90 to V34,
you would do so
by clicking on the "Modem:" pulldown menu, and selecting "Apple Internal 56k
Modem(V.34)." Make
sure that the modem is set to "tone" dialing instead of "pulse."
Once you are all through configuring the network preferences, click on "Apply Now" and close the window.
