GSA Offers Improved Wireless Services
In response to customer requests, the U.S. General Services Administration’s (GSA) Federal Technology Service (FTS) today announced improvements to the wireless services available under the Federal Wireless Telecommunications Services (FWTS) contract with GTE.
In addition to the cellular voice, data and paging products and services already available under the contract, FWTS now offers a wider array of rate plans, easier equipment purchases, streamlined ordering and billing, and local services from local providers participating in the program. In effect, FWTS is now more responsive and competitive in the rapidly changing wireless marketplace.
In announcing the changes, Dennis Fischer, FTS Commissioner said, "These improvements streamline our processes and give Federal agencies access to the best services, best technologies, best prices, and best customer care that the wireless industry has to offer."
The FWTS contract (GS00T97NSD0001) is a non-mandatory contract awarded to GTE in November 1996. It is available for use by all Federal agencies; authorized federal contractors; agency sponsored universities and laboratories; and as authorized by law, to state, local, and tribal governments in the contiguous United States, Alaska, Hawaii, District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands, Guam, American Somoa, and Northern Marianas. It provides the flexibility through contract enhancements to satisfy evolving customer needs and to obtain additional emerging wireless services and equipment, as they become commercially available.
