Left, classical guitarmaker Greg Byers teaches at the American School of Lutherie. Below Greg, Charles Fox and Eric Monrad chat about the state of lutherie in our office during a Northern California Association of Luthiers meeting. Just below, Charles doodles with a "box" in his universal mold.

Healdsburg and nearby communities boast a number of excellent teachers. Starting with Charles Fox and his American School of Lutherie (http://www.americanschooloflutherie.com), just around the corner; and Tom Ribbecke (http://www.ribbecke.com ) and his yearly arch top courses in the country a few miles south of town; and we've recently been lucky to have Harry Fleishman and his Luthiers School International (http://www.fleishmaninstruments.com) move to nearby Sebastopol, where archtop maker Taku Sakashita (www.sakashtaguitars.com)also teaches courses. A little further south about an hour and a half away, Ervin Somogyi, http://www.esomogyi.com ) teaches focused courses such as "The Who, What and Why of Soundboards" in Berkeley.

Left, class at Tom Ribbecke's shop. Tom and Linda Manza taught archtop making together and made a DVD which will soon be available through us. Below, archtop maker and Tom R's collaborator, Tom Cerletti, plays the Manzer-Ribbecke instrument in the white.

Below, Harry teaches at Luthiers School International, his new digs in Sebastopol. Ihor Wolschenko and Harry assemble quick-mold™. Bottom photo, Harry's students at our warehouse.

There are quite a few good places to learn guitarbuilding and repair, including several community colleges (Orange Coast Community College in Costa Mesa, CA.), and vocational schools, like Redwing Votech in Redwing, MN, and College Edouard Mont-petit in Longueuil, Que., Canada. Also, Roberto-Venn School of Lutherie in Phoenix has many graduates, one of whom works at our shop, and we've always heard good things about Bryan Galloup's School in Big Rapids, Michigan. Both David Freeman of Timeless Instruments of Tugaske Saskatchawan and Mike Jarvis of Qualicom, BC in Canada include living arrangements in their programs.
