Initiation

I've noticed that some things take a while to get used to,
but once you do,
you'll never hate them again.
Things like certain types of music,
like Shakespeare,
like poetry.
I remember in elementary school
the general bias against poems:
poetry was boring,
and flowery,
and excessively sappy.
Well, I just hadn't heard any good ones yet.
Once you read a poem you like,
once you discover some fun stuff in Shakespeare,
once you realize that not all of that music is horrible...
there's no going back.
Your mind has been opened.
It's only a matter of time and exposure before you're a devoted fan,
if not an outright addict.
And you don't regret it in the least.
I can just see the poetry gods smiling gleefully.
"Muahaha," they say, "We have caught another one!"
