Lifeblood Blue

When told to envision the color of life,
Green often comes to mind.
This is due to the astounding profusion
Of green plants you're likely to find.

Plants are so common, and this color most often,
Naturally life's mascot is green.
But what never occurs to people is that possibly
Another choice waits to be seen.

Most people associate blue with the sea,
Or the sky and think nothing more.
But the sea's always had more life than land,
And the sky's lifegiving air galore.

Blue is for water, the mother of life,
And the atmosphere that fosters us now.
Yet green got the job as mascot for life.
It's worth it to wonder just how.

Life originated in one realm of blue;
Now both allow it to thrive.
Without its blue homes, it's quite certain that all
"Green" life wouldn't be alive.

One color is that of many living things,
Without the other, life would die.
Perhaps, after all, the mascot debate
Could possibly end in a tie.
