Speed Style, I Hope

Mara Lynn Barbee

----------------------------------------

Let's
see
if I can do this quickly.
I gotta write a poem,
an' I gotta do it slickly.
It should be
fun,
It should be
worth while,
and above all,
it's gotta have
style.
I'm doing good so far;
I've cranked out a few lines,
an' that's real good,
cuz I'm running short on time.
Don't look at the clock,
just stare down at the keys,
keep on typing fast,
just as smooth as you please.
I've got plenty things to say,
and faith in my skill.
And I've only got five minutes, so it's really quite a thrill!
O-kay, breathe,
I'm doing fine.
All I've gotta do
is not think of the time.
The fact
that I've got
nothing good lined up to say
is just inconsequential;
who needs forethought anyway?
Eep,
ack,
I looked at the time.
Looks like this
is gonna
be my last line.
Well, so long, poem,
it's
been
fun.
I did enjoy writing you,
but I really have to run.
