Starlit Day

Mara Lynn Barbee

----------------------------------------

Time to sleep;
I close my eyes and follow my gaze,
up and through my mind and out the back
to a different world,
where a nameless friend waits for me.
The same laws don't apply,
and we fly.
We soar upward until we see the stars,
and we pause to observe the odd starlit day.
There are clouds gathering where we came from;
it's raining below us.
We communicate without words;
the sky is peaceful yet loud with thoughts.
Soon with a grin we're ready to dive back down
and zoom.
My friend says, turn your heartbeat on and crank it up.
I can almost hear the rain below.
