Halloween
and the time of the Day of the Dead have come and gone. One of the delights
of this season is getting to scare ourselves and each other with ghost
and other horror stories, haunted houses, and things that go “bump
          in the night.”
        It is natural for
us to stop telling these stories as the official day passes. The skeleton
comes off the door, the graves leave the front lawn, and all returns
to normal. But what about the ghost and horror stories that your mind
tells? I suspect it needs no special day or season. There is always
some person or event that the mind can use to tell a fantasy story about
something that does not exist-- AND scare itself and you in the process!
        Would it not be
wonderful to use this season to stop telling yourself scary stories
about things that do not exist? I think it would be a great time to
stop tolerating the crazy mind’s habit of making up stories about
the future that scare the body (commonly called “stress”).
You CAN retrain your mind to tell sweet and pleasant stories, ones that
bring you peace of mind. Like any habit, it takes desire, intent and
awareness to break the mind’s old story telling ways.
        If you desire peace
of mind, and your intent is strong, I hope you will use this time to
stop your ghost and horror stories. Open your awareness to the possibilities.
As we go from the Season of Death to the Season of Birth and Renewal,
I encourage you to prepare yourself by listening to the scary lies that
your mind tells, and stop tolerating them! They are based on old beliefs,
outdated agreements, and faulty logic. Listen carefully, and gently
release what does not serve you.
        It is an act of
great love for yourself. And I know you deserve it.
