Germany
We arrived in Munich before 6AM.  The sun wasn't up yet and it was very, very cold. We kept warm by finding a cafe that opened early and drinking lots of hot tea. Tea is not the breakfast drink of choice is Germany, beer is.  Most everyone else in the cafe was enjoying a cold half liter before heading to work.  This is a picture of the Glockenspiel in the main square of Munich just as the sun made it's presence known.  Five hours later the clock put on a really impressive show with little musicians and jousting knights.
Ah Oktoberfest.  As you can see, Eric is quite excited to be standing in front of the Paulaner beer hall.  This place had just opened a few hours earlier, and the crowds are already out in force.
The beauty of starting drinking early.  If we'd stayed until the evening, we wouldn't have been able to breath from all the people.  But as you can see, Eric is enjoying a liter of Paulaner with lots of elbow room.  The oom-pah band was in fine form, despite the crowd not having warmed up yet.
Kristen had to use both hands to lift the giant beer.  But, as you can see, she's quite happy to lift the weight.  Kristen made the observation that a liter of beer is just about 40oz.  This stuff is much better than Colt 45.
Aren't we cute?  Here we are in the Hofbrauhaus tent.  Oktoberfest is a great time.  I highly recommend it.  Just watch out for the drunks (at 2:30 in the afternoon?) who like to dump their beer on the table instead of drinking it.  Some quick reflexes kept our laps dry this time.
As you can see, this pretzel is bigger than Eric's head.  Which according to rumor is pretty big.  Did I mention that Oktoberfest is really cool?
There's a nice little hill with a giant statue of Bacchus above the Oktoberfest grounds. Here you can get a good aerial shot of all the festivities.  We sat up here for about 45 minutes watching people walk by in lederhosen.
