Western Italy
Eric resting atop the hill above Florence.  Check out the olive groves and the rolling hills.  Someone back there has a tower on his house  in addition to the scenery.  Eric is highly jealous.
Eric in the Boboli gardens overlooking Florence.  The Medicis had a very lovely back yard, don't you think?
Do you see that crowd in the background?  Kristen is excited to have been able to snag a place on a bench before the tour groups came flooding out of the church.
We stopped in Pisa to see the leaning tower.  We had to stop there to change trains, but it was a big mistake to go see the tower.  It started to rain lightly as we walked, but not hard enough to stop us.  Just as we got in sight of the tower, it really started to pour.  We took our picture from, 5 blocks away, and got thoroughly soaked trying to hurry back the 2km to the train station.
When we got off the train in Vernazza, on a Thursday afternoon in the pooring rain, we were met by a guy named Francesco, who offered us a room.  We were able to bargain a pretty sweet deal.  For 50 Euro (1 Euro = $1) per night, we got a nice sized 2 bedroom apartment just for the 2 of us.  It even had a washing machine.  That and the kitchen saved us a lot of money while we stayed.
Kristen overlooking Manarola.  All these pictures in Cinque Terre are just so scenic, we couldn't choose favorites.
The hiking trails between the towns are really nice, and have absolutely amazing views.  Eric decided he likes the Mediterranean much more than the Pacific. It's colors are so much brighter, and the water's so much warmer.
The sunset over the Monterosso (red mountain).  The town of the same name is hidden in the shadow of the mountain to the right of this picture.
