In Antigua, British West Indies,
Charles C's father, Charles Pinckney,
married the governor's daughter,
Elizabeth Lucas (1722-1793).
They lived in Charleston, NC,
when Charles was born in 1746.

Charles was politically active, signing
the Declarationof Independence
at age 30; he was 1 of 55 delegates
to the Constitutional Convention ten
years later, and at age 50 was the
country's minister to France. At the
turn of the century, he ran for
vice president under John Hardy;
his 1804 bid for presidency lost to
Thomas Jefferson.

Charles' daughter Mary wedded
George E. Andrews, and in 1824 named
their first son John Pinckney Andrews.

John came to California in 1857, and
settled in San Luis Obispo in 1859. He
married Tennessee Amania Cheney
in 1860; two years later, Geroge Henry was the first of their 13 children.
