Get Out Of The City

Dr. Madd Vibe Presents:

Get Out Of The City

The following was transcribed from Angelo Moore's (a.k.a. Dr. Madd Vibe) live spoken word performance at the Inn at the Beginning. on December 28, 1994. He accompanied his poetry and stories with jazzy saxophone and jangily piano playing.

Get out of the city
Jump into your shoes and run
Get out of the city
Pick up all your stuff and book
Get out of the city
Do not turn around and look
Get out of the city
The Metropolis began to shook
Get out of the city

Pull on your shoes and dance
Stop being so busy
Shoot and rob
Gold diggin' hob-snob
So you end up eating doo-doo
Caught up in the wrong voodoo
If we don't give what we got
This piece of blessing' is not
So escape the gritty shitty
Shackle blood clot

I express to you my comparison of snot to a city:
All the pigs,
It's a wade and stench and ditch
So I gotta scratch my itch and switch
So tune in my friend and just forget about your sins
Take a deep breath and just look up toward the sky
Spin around in circle with the blue sky in your eye,
and dance your way out of the city,

Your way out of the city,
your way out
your way out, man ...

(Saxophone squeal and a little be-bop)

It was a sunny day in my hometown just the other day
I was at my pad just watching channel three
It was the dead in the nation who came to be
and the new leader had shaky hands
He gave a speech on the 3-D TV set with horns in his head

"You're drafted."

Right then and there I tried to turn the channel
But then I found they were all channel three
For a moment I thought I was fryin'
But then I said, 'oh no, I couldn't be.'
It really happened
Satan the Devil was president

I was sittin' quackin' in my cotten socks,
All my labor, time and effort would be in vain and lost

I looked out my window and everybody was running scared
I looked at my TV - it's time again to end
