"Rocks"
(1990-1998)
Inaugural Inductee: June 2000
Jeff Ricketts’ election into The Beat Hall of Fame comes as no surprise to any of his former teammates. Jeff came to The Beat in 1990 as part of the “Long Hair Invasion” that produced such talent as Mike Laffey, Larry Avery and Greg Lukoski. He not only fit the culture of the team perfectly, but became a leader through his great work ethic, dedication to his team and devotion to the game.
Jeff worked his way through the ranks from benchwarmer to starter to Hall of Famer because he demanded perfection from himself. Whether pitching, catching or playing the outfield, he led by example, willing to do anything to help his team and his teammates. His uncanny ability to drill line drives down the 3rd base line confounded many opponents and started many rallies. His hustle on the diamond is legendary as is his ability to fire up his teammates. His leadership on and off the field earned him the 1995 Brass Beat Award, an award earned by few and coveted by many.
Jeff resides in The Beat Hall of Fame because he possesses the intangibles most players don’t have. A big baseball fan who became a great baseball man, who I believe would make any excellent manager. Jeff, thanks for playing on my team and welcome to The Hall!!
