Janet Irene Davis
Janet was born in Larimer County Hospital, Fort Collins, Colorado January 1, 1960.
At that time I was teaching Electrical Engineering at Colorado State University.
Madlon and I were living in Lowry Hall on the CSU campus.
Janet has always enjoyed art. She first liked to draw with crayons and felt tipped pens.
Later she used water colors and acrylics.
She graduated from Mountain View High School,
got a B. A. degree at Los Angeles Baptist College, and a M.A. degree at San Jose State
University majoring in Instructional Design and Technology. She obtained an Elementary
School Teaching Certificate, an English as a Second Language Certificate, and
Bilingual Language Certificate speaking Spanish and Mandarin. She has studied at
the Mendocino Art Center in Mendocino, CA.
After teaching fourteen years of bilingual elementary education, she started studying Web Design at Foothill College
and worked as an intern at the Ames Resaerch Center, Moffett Field, updating and designing
web pages. She worked part time at the Foothill/DeAnza Community Colleges in
the faculty on-line computer lab designing web pages for on-line learning courses until budget
cuts forced the colleges to terminate the entire department. Janet then taught Quark
Desktop Publishing and Graphical User Interface Design at Silicon Valley College in
San Jose while taking courses for an On-Line Teaching Certificate at Cal State Hayward.
She was then hired to teach Flash in the CAOS (Computer and Office Systems) department
at DeAnza College until her job was terminated because she lacked seniority. Her students
loved her classes and developed some fun and creative projects.
She has put some of her lessons and examples of student work online.

Janet was asked by the Dean of Distance Learning at Foothill College to be part of a team of
instructional designers to work on a special grant program in conjunction with Stanford
and MIT to develop open-source courseware.

Janet conducts workshops at the Mendocino Art Center in Mendocino, CA. She teaches
elementary and advanced methods of using the Adobe Photoshop program. She likes
to specialize in working with students who are beginners at using the computer. She knows
how to put them at ease and simplify their learning. She seems to be able to communicate
at a level where her students have a great experience learning about the Photoshop Program.
By the end of the workshops all the students seem to have a real understanding of the
program. They must like her as an instructor at the center because she keeps being
invited back to teach more workshops.
Janet has her own web site at:
www.janetdavis.net. She also works part time
as a free lance web page designer and has designed web sites for a number of clients.
