The Toad Hollow Gazette
Since 1983
"All the News That's Hoppinin' in The Hollow"
March 1997, Issue 6
Toad Hollow, CA -- Ah, the challenge of being a farmer! Although we
are very pleased with the quality of our 1996 Chardonnay due for release
on April 1, we are less than pleased with the quantity. We had hoped to increase
production each year until reaching our goal of 18,000 cases of Chardonnay in 1997.
Unfortunately, we have only 10,000 cases for your enjoyment/consumption this year, down
35% from last year. This will most likely be the trend through our next vintage, but we
are hopeful of increasing production with our 1998 vintage. We're small but mighty --
don't forget us when the wine is gone for the year -- just keep thinking about and waiting
for the next vintage!!
On a brighter note, we are pleased with the second editions of our Apropos
and Eye of the Toad we have been able to produce. They are both in
limited numbers (approximately 2,400 cases each).
For those of you still unfamiliar with the Eye (dry Rosé), please give it a try. Not
to be confused with sweet pink wines -- the beautiful color is the only similarity. This
is such a nice, dry wine (more dry that our original offering) -- great to enjoy on its
own, but also a wonderful food wine -- goes particularly well with spicy ethnic foods.
It's a great Spring wine -- give it a try -- we've got our Eye on you!!!
Our second offering of Apropos (Lot 62) is a blend of Mourvedre (76%), Carignane (17%)
and Syrah (7%). This wine is known for both its pleasure and reasonable price.
It's a great Sonoma County Rhône blend.
Letter From Frankie
Dear Toad Hollow Friends and Supporters:
For those of you who don't know me, I'd like to take this
opportunity to introduce myself. I'm Frankie (AKA Francine of Francine's Vineyard), wife
and keeper of the Toad, and I've just recently formally joined the crew at Toad Hollow.
After spending the last ten years working for a Santa Rosa law firm, I decided it was high
time to become involved in the day-to-day operation of the family business. It's a big
change and very exciting -- although I'm not crazy about entering a situation where Todd
knows so much more than I do. I mean, he actually thinks he's the boss around here. And
until I figure it out, he is!! Scary. Up until this point, my only wine
background is that I drink it -- and I know what I like. And I've never been involved in
sales. Luckily, with such a great product, I know I can do this. At any rate, I'm
looking forward to meeting or at least speaking with many of you. I appreciate the support
and allegiance you have shown us. Please don't stop now -- I don't want to have to look
for a new job. I'd rather stick around here and become the boss of Toad Hollow.
See you around the Hollow,
Frankie
(AKA Francine, but don't call me Curly!!)
