It was like seeing an old friend when this year’s Toad Hollow Chardonnay stuck its head out of the barrel and said, "Hi, it’s me!"

One of the pleasures of making wine is the gentle variation of each year’s wine as it responds to the weather conditions in which it lives during the annual cycle of its life. Brought on by the rains of winter, the summer sun, the frosty nights of spring, and other factors too numerous to mention.

Each year makes its own statement with its own lilting dialect of its mother’s tongue that gives it a unique personality.

The 1998 Toad Hollow Chardonnay beckons back to the early years of making this lovely varietal when the steely freshness of the wine gave us such pleasure and encouraged us to press ahead with our rather daring approach to this wine. Our 1998 Chardonnay has the same crisp, clean, between fresh sheets flavor that draws you in and holds you there with great comfort. Without any wood splinters or sawdust to disturb your pleasure.

We have always championed this philosophy of Chardonnay but have not had the pleasure of nature's total embodiment and commitment to our style for several seasons. This is it.

We feel very strongly that this wine will give you great pleasure and will also prove that you can "go home again."
