1999 Dry Pinot Noir Rosé, Sonoma County

If you are a puppy’s belly, a sunset, or a flamingo you have no further explanation with which to be concerned. If, however, you are a pink wine, in order to achieve the proper respect and weighted solicitude one demands in a classical wine, one must allude to certain factors.

The wine must be multi-faceted, having a beginning, a middle, and an end … not giving itself away entirely on the first sip. It should be lingering and complex, bringing up more intrigue. Our "Eye of the Toad" Rosé is such a wine. "Eye of the Toad" is named thusly to be properly self-effacing and to end any comparisons to the simple sweet and low that passes for rosé.

This wine is bold and deep with a very strong alliance to its source, the mighty and respected Pinot Noir. We achieve this by only giving the wine a very brief skin contact – a mere caress, a touch of blush. But still something of quality and remembrance.

It is also relatively low in alcohol, less than 12 percent. Good for sunning, but not stunning. Our rosé is dry with just a trace of residual sugar at only .04%, This is rather daring for an American Rosé. This is as dry as most table wines will ferment naturally. No sugar to mask the pleasures of its pink vibrant skin. Pink is pretty and it wants you to like it.

You will, you will – we know that you will. But don’t be surprised if it gets fresh with you!
