The SilhouVette is a Futuristic Sixties Style
Flying Car. Back in the Sixties, we thought we would be flying around in
cars like this by the year 2000! Well who knows, maybe by 2020 we will.
The "SilhouVette" was built using parts from the Revell Gran Tuismo,
AMT Silhouette and the AMT 1996 Corvette kits.
Construction of the "SilhouVette"
started by adding the Silhouette Bubble Top to the Gran Tuismo body (See
Construction Photos). After a lot of cutting and fitting, I was able to
fit the Silhouette Bubble top and front raised scoop in place. Sheet plastic
was used to form the new body sides. A 1996 Corvette front end was narrowed
and fit in place. The 1996 Corvette Tail light housings were removed and
fit into the rear section of the Gran Turismo body. Sheet plastic was used
to fill in the rear pan and engine opening.
A "belly pan" was made from sheet
plastic and cut-outs for the "Landing Gear" and the "Turbo
Directional Thrusters" were done with the Dremel Tool. The "Thrusters"
were made from de-chromed wheels. This bottom area was painted flat white
and then completely dusted with flat black, for the "Stealth Look".
The two rear "Power Thrusters" were made from Plastic and Aluminum
Tubing.
The Silhouette Interior was used and painted
with Testors Metalic Blue with a Dullcote clear sprayed over. The Silhouette
instruments were replaced by a Thin Screen Monitor, made with a license
plate frame. No steering wheel, just a joystick. The seats were covered
with white cloth medical tape.
The body and interior imperfections were
filled with Evercoat Putty, sanded smooth and primed. . The "SilhouVette"
was painted with Testors Flat White with a few coats of Glosscote. The decals
are from Revells Integra and Scale Motorsports.
