In 1824 Franz Kramer opened a Gasthausbrauerei which has since grown to one of the larger German breweries. In 1852, then known as the "Grevensteiner Brauerei", it was taken over by Clement Veltins, and the family continues to run it to this day.
Veltins has been a big-time Schalke supporter, not only a past jersey sponsor, but participating in the Arena Auf Schalke construction.
