After maintaining 2nd division status for a few years, the club disappeared, before coming back up the ladder in the 1990s. The 98-99 campaign was fairly decent, as Celle proved to be a tough opponent for most clubs. But in the critical combine Regionalliga qualifying year, the club was not up to the task. Things (especially finances) started to fall apart. The club continued to decline through the millenium.
By 2004, things were beginning to look up. The club managed to regain promotion back to the Verbandsliga, and more important, the club had no debts. Of course the proposed budget of 170,000 euros would hardly finance, say, Adrian Mutu's cocaine spree, but it's a start...
