By 1949, a new club BSG Motor Nordhausen was founded, which then participated in the GDR leagues. Success was relatively non-existant, as they bounced around in the 2nd division DDR-Liga, before actually dropping down to the 3rd division Erfurt league in 1989. In 1990, after reunification, the soccer section declared itself independant and started over under as FSV Wacker 90. There was some modest success, including a promotion into the pro ranks in 1995. Since then, things have been on the way down again. The club went into administration in 2000, so most of the players left the team. As a result, last place in the Oberliga was inevitable (only 3 wins), although the remaining players gave a good effort. Things continued downhill, as in the Landesliga Thüringen, more players left. With only 8 minutes left in the season, playing at Meuselwitz, Wacker was leading 1-0 and saved, but then they gave up two goals to lose 2-1, sending them down another notch.
