It's roots were in Arbeitersport, and as a worker's club, SV Wehen was banned by the Nazis in 1933. Aside from a few friendly matches, this was the extent of the club until 1946, when the members refounded the club.
Wehen kicked around aimlessly until about 1987, when they won the Landesliga and promotion into the Oberliga Hessen. Although they were initially seeded into the new Regionalliga in 1994, they dropped down for a couple of years before bouncing back.
The 1998-99 season was like squeezing water out of a rock. Despite getting their ass kicked on a regular basis, Wehen won critical close games, finishing respectably despite a negative goal difference. Things have since looked up. The highpoint was probably in 2000, when Wehen hosted Borussia Dortmund in the DFB-Cup. The match was held in Mainz, in front of 12,000 fans. When gave Borussia all they could handle, and it took a lone goal in overtime for Dortmund to win 1-0.
By 2006, Wehen had made a couple of decent finishes in the Regionalliga, and a promotion to the 2.Liga was a distinct possibility. The club decided to expand the local stadium, and came to agreement with the nearby city of Wiesbaden to relocate the team at least temporarily. They also agreed to carry their hosts name, so they became officially known as "SV Wehen-Wiesbaden". (This arrangement will probably last until they get relegated)
