Oberliga Niederrhein, Game 2:
Note: The result of this game may be overturned. Apparently the Velbert
player Mark Roch is ineligible. His contract was expired before the season
started, and Velbert neglected to renew it. According to regulations, you
cannot play without a contract. So it is possible that the game will be
given 2-0 to WSV. Velbert will also forfeit their 5-0 Niederrhein Cup win
over Grevenbroich, who will now face...WSV.
A terrible result for WSV, as they choked on a big one. They controlled
the play early, but Velbert's John made a brilliant move after half an
hour in a combination with Reucher to knock home the lead. In the
meantime, Velbert's keeper Grefen was in top form, and brought the Blues
in at halftime with the somewhat lucky lead. In general, WSV showed a lot
of hoitsy-toitsy skillful play, while the Velberters were "fighting"
(kämpfen), and this was enough to carry the day - along with
some crap WSV finishing.
WSV continued to press in the 2nd half, and Goumai and Janssen missed open
net sitters. These misses were penalized as Velbert scored again to bring
home the bacon.
After the match, WSV club president Friedhelm Runge was heard to state
"We're better at all positions." Whatever. Obviously the score indicates
otherwise. Certainly there has to be a certain amount of frustration for
the WSV boss, as Velbert's coach Grabotin apparently is an employee of
Runge's EMKA company.
