Oberliga Niederrhein, Game 4:
Not much of a performance for the Wuppertalers, but at least we bring home
the bacon. WSV controlled things from the start, although the Zebras did
have some decent forays into the Wuppertal half early on.
But it was furious attacking from WSV from the get-go. After only 4
minutes, a nice combination from Bayertz to Kohout to Tavarez saw the
newcomer whistle a shot from 20 meters just inches over the bar. Then the
other new midfielder, Thomas Euler laid in a perfect cross to Vladimir
Hyza, unmarked in the box - WSV had the lead.
This led to great end-to-end action on both sides, as Heese blocked a
point blank shot, which led Bayertz leading a breakaway that ended with
Kohout missing a sitter.
The 2nd half saw more of the same, although WSV's edge disappeared and
lame defending forced Heese to again come up big. However, then a great
solo run by Tavarez, who unselfishly passed on to Goumai for the tap in,
and WSV looked to be sailing home. In fact, both tavarez and Hyza had
clear chances to finish off the Zebras. But as is WSV's wont, they missed,
and when Glatt scored, the last 20 minutes was again anybody's game. But
at least this time WSV was secure and brought home the precious points.
