Oberliga Niederrhein, GAME 5: (September 14, 2002)
WSV eeks out unsatisfactory win
WSV hardly covered themselves with glory, but managed to eek out a win
over Friealdenhoven before a sparse crowd at the Zoo. A minute of silence
prior to start was observed to honor the dead of the New York bombing.
WSV found it hard to get started on the rain drenched field. Tavarez
appeared to have scored after about 12 minutes, but the goal was annulled
by the ref. Alex Kohout then missed a wide open goal, his shot blocked
ironically by ex-Wsver fan favorite Ingo Menzel.
Finally, after about 26 minutes, Vladmir Hyza broke down the side and laid
in a perfect cross to be headed in by Kohout, and WSV had a deserved lead.
Both teams found it increasingly difficult to mount anything in the 2nd
half, as the increasingly crap field proved to be a tougher opponent. WSV
had a few clear cut chances, but as usual, blew them.
All in all, a crap game and performance, but we get the 3 points.
