Oberliga Niederrhein, Game 10:
A dominant performance by WSV in a top of the table clash, perhpas the
best effort by the Lions all season. Wuppertal attacked furiously, and had
things all wrapped up by halftime. This is the third consecutive 4-0
victory in league play, and moves WSV ever closer to the leaders. (BTW,
Borussia Wuppertal stunned leader Velbert 3-0 to help things out.)
Some 400 Wuppertalers made the trip to the Sportpark Nord in Bonn, and
they had a lot to cheer about. The Bonn fans of course were hoping for a
result as well, given that BSC had been playing brilliantly in the last
few games, and was only one spot behind WSV in the table.
WSV started with a couple of changes. Nils Heese, who had got a ridoculous
red card in a previous game, started, as the league ruled that it was a
crap call, so he wasn't banned after all. Vladimir Hyza was out sick, so
Markus Voike got a rare start. Right at the start, Heese was forced to
make a nice save, but aside from that, WSV immediately seized the
initiative and attacked.
After the first 20 minutes, WSV had basically knocked out the Bonners. In
fact, after the match, Bonn's coach Schmickler stated "We might have well
given up then." First Alex Kohout used a mistake by Bonn's Hanisch, and
then a few minutes later, Sigiura screwed up, misjudging Bayertz cross,
and Walbröhl was there
to tap home. (Siguira would compound his incompetance just before half by
getting his ass tossed out of the game.)
WSV was now full of confidence and totally dominated the game. The Bonners
ran around like headless chickens. Alex Kohout, having a superb game,
rammed home his 2nd about 5 minutes before half, essentially wrapping
things up.
In the 2nd half, Bonn brought on a couple of attackers to desperately try
and get back in. After a couple of minutes, Niang's volley was their big
chance, but he screwed it up and blasted over the net. In a counterattack,
Bayertz headed just over, but after 55 minutes, Kurt put in the final nail
in the coffin, as he slammed a volley into the net from Kipre's beauty of
a cross.
WSV had a couple of additional big chances to run up the score, but the
Bonners were lucky they didn't go in. As it was, they had a royal
ass-whupping, and their fans deserted the game after about an hour.
Meanwhile, WSV coach Frantisek Straka declared himself satisfied with his
team's play, and the travelling WSV whooped it up.
