Oberliga Niederrhein, GAME 11: (October 27, 2001)
WSV with win, but only just.
WSV started out furiously and threatened to blow the Ratingers out of the
Zoo. The Lions attacked from the get go, and were rewarded with two quick
goals. Ratingen has been a club that has given WSV trouble in the past
(indeed their win at the Zoo last season might have cost WSV the title).
Wuppertal was simply getting a bit too fancy on attack, and not taking
enough shots. Otherwise, they might have had 3-4 more in the first half.
WSV was unlucky not to get a third, as Kohout's shot was cleared off the
line. Then in one of the few adventures forward by Germania, Atulahi
scored just before half, and it was clear that WSV was going to have
trouble.
In the 2nd half, the match was more even. Zjajic hit the post for Ratingen
just after the restart. WSV's attack basically lost it's flow, and despite
being to reduced to 10 men after Rasche got his ass red carded, Ratingen
continued to cause problems. But at least WSV was superior enough
to remain in control enough to waste time and keep the win.
A troubled win, but it's 3 pts, and WSV takes over 1st place, at least
temporarily.
