Match Report

1.FC Bocholt - Wuppertaler SV 1:1 (0:1)

Oberliga Niederrhein, Round 12:
November 4, 2001
Lucky point for WSV

WSV can be happy with escaping with a point from the Am Hüting stadium in Bocholt, as they were under pressure for most of the match.

The first half wasn't so bad, as the leaders had a slight advantage. Noel Kipre put WSV up in the 22nd minute after a nice pass from Sven Steup, and for the most part, Bocholt's only threats came from set pieces. Sascha Walbröhl was forced to clear off the line in one instance, but for the most part, WSV seemed to have to game in hand.

The 2nd half was another story. Bocholt attacked with abandon, and WSV seemed totally disorganized. The WSV defenders Kurt and Klemmer were quite busy in sorting things out, as keeper Nils Heese was not having a good day, especially with high balls. The WSV midfield trio of Hyza, Bayertz and Tavarez were unable to establish their usual control, and Bocholt's pressure increased unabated. Finally, five minutes from time a header by ex-pro Harald Katemann found the net for the deserved equalizer. In injury time, Bocholt almost won the match outright, but luckily the post saved WSV's butt.

Not a good performance, since WSV was close to being overrun. The defense earned WSV the somewhat lucky point through their energetic play.
