Oberliga Niederrhein, Round 19:
WSV got off the restart with a commanding 4-1 away win over Wegberg, and
coupled with Velbert's stunning home loss to Aachen, the Lions vault into
1st place.
Several normal starters were banged up, so it was a semi-new look for WSV,
as two new players were integrated into
the squad with good results. Ioannis Tsapakidis, who had impressed with a
trial during the winterbreak, started in the defense, and Andreas Gellert
was promoted from the WSV-II squad. Fan favorite Nils Heese seems to have won
back his starting role as goal-keeper.
WSV dominated from the start, with MOTM Bayertz opening the scoring after
a quarter hour. This led to a fierce WSV onslaught against the hapless
Beeckers, and everything was wrapped up by half-time.
