Oberliga Nordrhein, Round 1:
NOTE:
This game is erased from the record books, as a few weeks later Rheydt
declared bankruptcy. As a result, all Rheydt games were annulled and they
were automatically relegated.
An easy win for WSV, a a good start to the
new Oberliga
campaign. They top the table after this opening match. New boss Georg
Kreß ran out three new starters, in keeper Christian Maly and
defenders Andre Narewsky and Björn Mehnert. Unlike
similar matches in past season, WSV did not run around listless, but
instead went for the jugular right from the start. This paid off with
quick goals in succession by Tavarez, Kipre and Kohout. WSV kept up the
pressure and another score by Sascha Walbröhl wrapped things up by
halftime. In the 2nd part, WSV obviously was taking a nap, but were
careful enough to make sure that the hapless Rheydters never really got
into the match. Newcomer Florian Wardi had a successful debut, as he
scored after coming in for Noel Kipre.
The highlight of the post game conference was that Rheydt coach Jörg
Jung resigned. This was a bit of a surprise. Rheydt has had serious
financial problems, but appears to have got by that. Perhpas the
internal politics have taken their toll. New WSV coach Georg Kreß
stated he was satisfied with
his debut. He felt that his team had played well in the 1st half, and you
really couldn't count the 2nd half seriously.
Next match is Wednesday the 14th against Schwarz-Weiss Essen, who thumped
renamed Viktoria
Köln 3-0. This is certain to be a sterner test.
