Oberliga Nordrhein, Round 5:
A clear win for WSV that regains the table. It was a dominating win,
mainly because Ratingen was lame, but given the conditions, a good
performance. Coach Georg Kreß missed that match, as he was in the
hospital for observation. Assistant coach Christian Bross took over
and put together a fine game plan. Injured Ales Kohout and Mirko Stark
were also
not available, but they were hardly missed. Oliver Ebersbach again started
as forward, and had a very strong game. David Rimbold assisted with a more
more offensive role as well.
The defense was solid, and the midfield dominated the game such that it
was only in the closing minutes that ratingen even managed to force a save
from a bored Maly. Especially Steup and Bayertz had things well in
hand. The only decent player on the Ratingen side was ex-Greek world
Cup and and ex-Wsver Minas Hantzidis - who managed to get the shot too.
The only other "impact" was when Zajcic got his ass tossed for retaliation
after about an hour.
Overall, a good performance for WSV against an overmatched opponent - just
the way it should be.
In the rest of the league, Fortuna Köln toppled erstwhile leaders
Osterfeld, and Essen got a thumping win.
