Oberliga Nordrhein, Round 6:
WSV gets a ho-hum win, although they really should have pressed for a
total rout of the last placed guests. A lame performance, but it keeps
things OK.
WSV gained the upper hand almost immediately.David Rimbold
opened the scoring in the 5th minute, as he directly
volleyed a shot in off a corner kick. WSV continued to press, and
Düren was without any chances. But WSV wasted some decent ones of
their own, that could have ended the match right there. And in the 2nd
half, WSV almost paid the price. The tail-enders realized that WSV was
just going through the motions, and redoubled their efforts and pushed
forward.
In the 55th minute, Maly stopped a penalty kick from Schmitz. Bayertz had
knocked over
Heinrichs in the box. A couple of minutes
later, Kohout was subbed in, and immediately made his presence felt: he
tapped the ball over the line on a open goal, when Breuer could only knock
down a hard shot from Ebersbach, who had turned and got off a
blast from the endline. DUuml;ren continued to push forward, which gave
Hyza and Ebersbach clear chances on the counters, but they wasted those as
well.
For Düren, the management decided to take drastic consequences in the
week following the loss. Coach Bernd Lennartz, who had brought the team
from the 6th Division Landesliga, was uncerimoniously fired. He was
replaced by Jörg Jung, who had resigned from Rheydt before the season
started.
For WSV, this was nothing but a Pflichtsieg, and judging by their
ho-hum performance, they just did enough to win and go to the pub for a
cold one.
