Oberliga Nordrhein, Round 18:
Just before the Winterbreak, WSV did a crapper and lost to an inspired SW
Essen squad. The Esseners must have been determined to keep warm in
freezing temperatures, and WSV on the other hand figured that the 20
minute delay (due to electricity failure) was a good time to take a nap.
As a result, Essen stormed out and kicked Wuppertal's ass in the 1st half,
while WSV was still sleeping. Apparently coach Kreß kicked some
booty of his own in the lockerroom at half, because WSV came out strong
and pressed hard, pulling back two goals and then getting the shaft as
Olli Ebersbach's tying goal in the waning minute was called off due to
alleged offsides.
Schwarz-Weiss deserves kudos for fighting hard and holding on to the wind.
Certainly they'll still have a say in the championship race. Coach Frank
Benatelli was pleased with his performance, and happy they were able to
hold on to the win. He did mention that he still considers WSV the
favorites. Kreß was obviously not too pleased with the team
performance, at least for the first half. He merely observed that "I'm not
too happy with the Ref" when asked about the offsides goal.
Despite the loss, WSV remains in 1st place.
