Regionalliga Nordrhein, Round 2:
An unlucky result for WSV, as they pressed the favored Braunschweig squad
to the wall. They seemed to have a deserved victory, when American Jacob
Thomas scored in injury time to save the visitors from defeat.
WSV dominated the game, and the result might have been different if they
had taken advantage of their chances. In the 15th minute, Olli Ebersbach
was hauled down, but Sascha Walbroehl missed the penalty. Anreas Gensler
had a couple of huge chances right before half as well.
In the 2nd half, WSV continued to press. Jean-Louis Tavarez had a great
run, and his pass to Marc Narewsky was easily tapped in for the lead. Olli
Ebersbach had a couple of huge opportunities near the end of the game to
salt it away, but couldn't. Then in injury time, Jacob Thomas headed in
off a corner for Braunschweig's lucky point.
Overall, WSV coach Georg Kress was very satisified with his players: "A
very good game by us. We never let up and were playing convincingly. The
fans were happy, and so am I. Too bad that we had to give up two points."
