Regionalliga Nordrhein, Round 3:
August 16, 2003

SG Wattenscheid 09 - Wuppertaler SV 0:2 (0:1)

Hard work rewarded

While WSV celebrated another strong perforamnce, and came to a deserved win, the favored Wattenscheid squad was in disarray. "I can't remember a worst first half ever" stated their club president. Coach Hannes Bongartz spoke of lack of confidence and the need to kick some butts.

Both WSV goals took advantage of quick thinking WSV forwards and lackadaisical defending. A poor clearnace by defender Pinske was picked up and quickly converted by Andreas Gensler for the lead. The decisive goal came then as Ales Kohout took a quick pass from Tavarez, who had stole the ball from a Wattenscheid defender. Kohout zipped past two defenders and left footed into the net.

For WSV a solid performance. Once again, veteran Karsten Baumann was a rock at the back, and up front, Kohout was constantly causing trouble. WSV controlled the whole game, and Wattenscheid hardly had any chances. No wonder their club officials were whining and sniveling. Wuppertal cotinues to impress at the Regionalliga level, and next week the Zoo should be rocking as famed St.Pauli comes to town!
