Regionalliga Nord, Round 13:
October 25, 2003

Wuppertaler SV - Borussia Dortmund Amateurs 1:1 (1:1)

Ref causes undue excitement

Once again, contraversial decisions by the ref made him the centerpoint of the story. After a "dive" by Tavarez, the player complained, so the ref tossed his ass. This led to more trouble, as some 100 fans attempted to storm the field in an attempt to lynch the ref. However, the police kept them in check, with liberal use of billyclubs. Meanwhile, Markus Anklam further insulted everybody by declaring he wasn't afraid, since there was enough protection, and he just continued to do his job.

Dortmund took the lead when Gambino scored after a double pass caught teh WSV defense flatfooted. He reamined a dangerous player throughout the match; indeed, he was soon promoted to the Bundesliga squad and playing regularily with the pros. Overall, the Dortmunders showed strength and determination.

For WSV, a good fighting spirit brought them back, despite being a man down. A lucky deflection off Kohout's shot gave them the deserved draw. The fans loud support no doubt helped, and they were mentioned by coach Georg Kress in the post-game as one of the key reasons for the comeback.
