The game in the Salmtal-Stadium developed as a very competitive match, as both teams played very hard. The hosts, coming off two consecutive wins, had the first chances in the game. Thömmes shot was cleared off by Heinen with some difficulty.

From midway of the first half, the technical advantage of the Wuppertal club began to take shape, and then they took the 1:0 lead on Mademann's shot, that was rebounded off Koster.

In the second half, Salmorhr played more offensive, and the Wuppertal counterattacks created more chances. However, after Simmes justifiably raised the lead to 2:0 after an hour, the visitors became lazy. The deserved goal by the best Salmrohr player, Mario Paul, signaled the stormy end, as the hosts threw everything into attack. However, they missed several chances to tie.
