A huge step forward for WSV, winning a tough match against a contender.
Since Preussen Koeln was stunned 0-2 at home to a tough Osterfeld squad,
WSV now has a 6 point lead with only 3 games left.
WSV started out with a slight advantage, but in was Rheydt that grabbed
the lead, as Weber knocked in after a corner kick. However, WSV didn't let
that bother them, and 20 minutes later, Frank Klemmer headed in the tying
goal.
The 2nd half saw continued back and forth play, but WSV grabbed the lead
for good as Minas Hantzidis floated in a beautiful cross. Alex Kohout took
the shot, which brought forth a nice save by Rheydt's keeper Coenen.
Luckily, Noel Kipre grabbed the rebound and tapped into the empty net.
Overall, a solid performance by WSV, especially the defense organized
around Richard Mademann, and the excellent keeping of Nils Heese.

Wuppertaler SV -1.FC Bocholt 1:0 (1:0)
Another critical WSV victory in a makeup game. This was not an easy one,
as 1.FC Bocholt turned out to be a very tough nut to crack. Bocholt had
served notice by knocking off Gladbach's amateurs, so WSV knew they were
going to be in for a struggle.
WSV started out with immense pressure against the Bocholt club, with
especially Klemmer and Igwilo pulling strings in midfield. Although most
of the attacks were coming on the right side, with Kovacic playing a big
role, it was a brilliant action by Minas Hantzidis on the left that got
things going, as his precise cross was headed in by Noel Kipre for the
only goal of the match.
However, instead of calming things down, WSV began to get a bit ragged,
and Bocholt started to get back into the game. Keeper Nils Heese was
forced to make several decent saves during the course of the match to keep
the clean sheet.
Eventually, WSV regained control of the match, with the outstanding
Hantzidis dominating in midfield. The former Greek World Cup player (USA
94) again combined with Kipre to create a great chance, but Kipre's
backheel brought abrii

Wuppertaler SV - Germania Teveren 3:0 (2:0)
Not a very impressive performance, but at least WSV brings home the bacon.
This was a makeup of an earlier rainout against the weak Teveren team.
Despite dominating the game, WSV as usual wasted too many chances, and
should have really put the game away early. After about 20 minutes of
pressing hard, during which Kipre missed at least two sitters, WSv began
to play clumsily. Finally Alex Kohout took matters into his own hands, and
seemingly notched up the points with a pair of goals before half.
After the restart, WSV lacked killer instinct, and dicked around some
more. Heese was forced to make a couple of saves that would have let
Teveren back into the game. Then, after Klemmer was fouled in the box,
Mademann missed from the penalty spot, and WSV continued to not-impress.
Finally Klemmer knocked in one near the end, and at least Teveren were
well beaten, albeit that WSV shuold have scored at least 5-6.

Wuppertaler SV - Bonner SC 3:0 (1:0)
WSV moves into 1st place! Despite a not overly impressive performance, WSV
was rewarded for decent efforts over the last few games and sneaks into
1st, as the opposition stumbles.
There were a couple of surprises as the match kicked off. Since has
basically the same colors, WSV came out in an atypical black shorts and
white jersies. Also, coach Straka decided to start Peter Falkenberg from
the WSV-II squad in midfield. Finally, Bonn came out aggressively and
pushed WSV into the defensive from the start.
Falkenberg didn't much of a chance to show much, and was forced out with
injury early. Minas Hantzidis came in, and promptly blasted a 20 meter
shot into the net, giving WSV the lead. However, WSV continued under
pressure, as Bonn was still taking it to them.
In the 2nd half, WSV was a changed team. They quickly seized control of
the game, and threw everything into attack. As usual, poor finishing
resulted in WSV's inability to close out the match early. Kipre and
Kovacic in particular blew easy sitters. In the end, it was left to
Hantzidis to repeat with another goal, and an additional sub, "Tostao"
Soares finished the Bonners off.
All in all, a decent performance based on the 2nd half. Straka has to be
pleased with the excellent result from Hantzidis, and also with
much-maligned Gabi Raduta, who had a strong performance in the 2nd half.

FC Wegberg-Beeck - Wuppertaler SV 1:2 (0:1)
A lucky win for WSV against an undermanned Wegberg team, that barely
escaped bankruptcy a few months ago, and was forced to disband a decent
team. Wegberg gifted WSV a first half goal, as Goalkeeper Borg knocked in
Noel Kipre's lazy cross into his own net.
Wegberg however put up a good fight, and although they clearly were
interested in only a point. (Their lineup was 3-7-0 !) WSV pressured
early, but was unable to really achieve much, although both Klemmer and
Kovacic tested Borg with hard shots.
In the 2nd half, WSV fell asleep, and Wegberg got back into the game.
Babcar Dioup chopped down Callea, and Olaf Poll nailed the penalty. WSV
finally began to exert pressure, but Borg made up for his early mistake,
especially with a brilliant save to deny Klemmer from point blank range.
However, it took a last minute penalty-box sandwich by Ronca and Dassen
against Kipre to give WSV it's last chance: Kovacic converted, and we
escape with 3 points.

Finally a decent game, as WSV traveled to the leaders to make up a
rainout. Certainly the way WSV had been playing, there was every
expectation of another crap performance. Instead, Wuppertal came out and
played tough from the start. Despite missing Richard Mademann, serving
a suspension, the defense was solid. Yasar Kurt played a solid game,
filling in nicely. Nils Heese was back in goal, and played brilliantly.
Frank Klemmer put WSV ahead after a corner kick, and from then on, it was
Gladbach attacking wildly. But Heese was up to the task and kept the clean
sheet. Then on a counterattack, James Igwilo floated in a nice cross and
Noel Kipre finished in cold blooded fashion.

WSV had a tough time against Straelen, who were pretty much concentrated
on keeping a solid defensive wall. Early on, things were moving forward,
with Farnk Klemmer leading the charge, and generally having the best game
on the field. But then the crap ref lost control, and started handing out
yellow cards like Halloween candy. As a result, Alex Kohout got his ass
tossed after only 30 minutes, and for the rest of the game, WSV was a man
down. Despite the disadvantage, WSV maintained the upper hand until
perhaps the last 20 minutes, when Straelen moved forward and tested Daniel
Eschbach. Eschbach was up to the task, and the score remained goose eggs.
Overall, a decent fighting effort by WSV, given that they played 60

1.FC Koeln U23 - Wuppertaler SV 2:3 (1:1)
A fierce battle developed between WSV and the Under 23 team of 1.FC Koeln.
League leading WSV had trouble with an aggressive Koeln team, and it
wasn't until the last 20 minutes or so that the Wuppertalers began to take
over control of the match. In the end, a last minute goal by Noel Kipre
enables WSV to bring home the bacon.
Things started out decently, as leading scorer Alex Kohout notched number
10 to put WSV in the lead. But then the Koeln youngsters began to take
over. Led by a superb Markus Dvorrak, they continually pushed WSV into the
defensive. Dvorak's two goals had WSV down, and the 2nd half would need a
WSV rally. Coach Straka made some important changes. James Igwilo
was dropped, as his normally effective wing play was neutralized by the
narrow field. Marcel Peeper had been largely ineffective, and Gabi Raduta
was given another chance.
Despite controlling most of the play, WSV was continously frustrated by
Koeln's keeper, Sokolov, who was quite sharp. Finally, Ayranci chopped
down Andrija Dabovic in the box, and veteran Richard Mademann cooly
converted the penalty to square the match. Despite the WSV onslaught, it
looked like Koeln might escape with a point. But then Noel Kipre lifted
the ball over the outrushing Sokolov in the dying moments to give WSV the
victory.

Wuppertaler SV - SC Adler Osterfeld 3:2 (2:1)
A tough win for WSV! Osterfeld was considered one of the co-favorites of
the season, but they started off rather slow. They showed in the Zoo why
they are not to be considered lightly.
WSV Coach Frantisek Straka had to make some changes. Nils Heese got the
start in goal for the banned Daniel Eschbach. He looked fairly decent,
although the lame defense caused many problems for him. "Tostao"
Soares got his
first start over the banned Murat Jasarevic. He would later be replaced by
Michel Peeper, making his first appearance in ages after long injury
absence.
WSV started off with an
attack,
but it was Osterfeld that looked more dangerous, especially with the
counterattacks with their center-forward, Jablonski. He looked very sharp,
and neither Mademann nor Klemmer were really able to slow him down all
match. Dioup was constanly being beaten.
WSV continued to attack, and especially Noel Kipre wasted chances. But
then WSV got things rolling in a fine 10 minute stretch at the half hour
mark. James Igwilo slammed home a low shot, then Andrija Dabovic had the
goal of the day, as he dribbeled through the whole defense and put WSV up
2-0. But just when things looked great, that Jablonski faked Mademann out
of his jockstrap and cut the lead.
The 2nd half saw more of the same. Noel Kipre finally hit the net, and it
looked that WSV might slip away. But then Igwilo got his 2nd yellow card,
in a somewhat harsh call. As a result things got a bit tight. Action
continued back and forth, with both teams having several chances to score.
In the end, WSV maintained the advantage for a deserved, but hard-fought,
win.

MSV Duisburg Amateurs - Wuppertaler SV 1:1 (1:0)
A lucky escape for WSV! Things started out poorly for the leaders. Gabi
Raduta started for the banned Murat Jasarevic, and he was pretty much crap
in the libero position. The defense was totally organized, and Torres
slipped in unmarked to put the Zebras in the lead. WSV looked unorgainzed
in defense, and lame in midfield. Despite the fact that MSV is a lower
table team, Wuppertal was unable to mount anything.
At half time, coach Straka made some adjustments. Raduta was yanked, and
Soares was brought on for more offensive punch. Kovacic also replaced the
ineffective Hantzidis. However, things then got worse: Keeper Daniel
Eschbach raced out and tackled a Duisburg forward on a breakaway, and got
his ass red carded. As a result, James Igwilo had to leave, and Nils Heese
took Eschbach's place. Heese ended up having a great game, and solidified
the defense. He was hardly warm when he stopped a penalty by Gvenisic, who
had been fouled by Mademann. Nevertheless, with time running down and a
man short, it looked like WSV would crap. Then Alex Kohout led a last
second breakaway, and his pass found an open Noel Kipre who slid the ball
into the net. 1-1!

Wuppertaler SV - Rheydter SV 5:1 (2:0)
A brilliant victory for WSV, their best of the season! Finally the long
suffering Wuppis have something to cheer about, as WSV defended 1st place
and put together a half way decent performance. From the start, Wuppertal
came out attacking. Rheydt tried to keep pace, but the WSV defense was
solid. Instead, the Rheydt defense was full of holes, and Wuppertal
immediately created some decent chances. Klemmer, Igwilo and Kipre all had
goals to be had, but missed. Then leading goal scorer Alex Kohout came in
solo and
blasted in the 1-0 lead. WSV continued to press, but it took another 20
minutes to score again. Noel Kipre was brought down inthe box, and veteran
Richard Mademann converted his 1st of the year. The end of the half also
brought the first red, as Rheydt's Dietmar Jansen chopped down Dabovic.
In the 2nd half, WSV seemed content to just waste time. And of course it
wasn't long before Murat Jasarevic got his ass red carded again to even
out the field. He chopped down Sergio Tavarez in his usual clumsy
way. Certainly it was a bit of a swan dive, but it was the lameness
we've come to expect from Murat. Perhaps this brought a realization that
the game wasn't over, and Wuppertal again went over to the attack.
Kovacic and Kohout again bagged goals. But the
ref wasn't finished yet, as he whipped out two more red cards, one for
each team. (Einke and Kohout). Kohout's red means a ban, which hurts us,
as he had just scored his 9th goal.
In the end, this performance by WSV showed that coach Frantisek Straka has
put together a decent squad, capable of playing entertaining soccer. Let's
hope that they continue to do so.

Overall, a lame WSV performance, but just enough to win. Especially in the
first half, WSV showed little. Bonn played us to a standstill, and aside
from Kouhout's goal, WSV had little to show. In the 2nd half, with Refos
and especially Dabovic, Wuppertal began to press harder. Dabovic's goal on

Wuppertaler SV - FC Wegberg/Beeck 0:0 (0:0)
A disappointing result for WSV. Heavy rain had slogged the pitch,
which undoubtedly effected the game. And probably prevented some
50,000 jamming the stadium (which has it's 75th birthday). Instead,
about 2,000 showed up.
After a quick start by WSV, Wegberg
had the first chances. Trienekens had a long range blast which caught
Eschabch by surprise. Luckily, Gebka missed the rebound, off target at an
open goal from about 5 feet. Wuppertal's offense couldn't get rolling, and
the guests securely had the draw into halftime. The sole decent effort
came from Mademann's free kick just over the bar after Hantzidis had
been hauled down just outside the box. The fans were none to
pleased with Wuppertal's performance, and isolated whistles could be
heard.
In the 2nd half, WSV slowly began to build up pressure, and despite
defending well, Wegberg began to get into trouble. Kipre put in a
nice cross that Kohout headed over the bar - from only about 3 feet. Kipre
himself missed a couple
of clear chances as well. However, the key loss was with about 15
minutes remaining: Frank
Klemmer put in a perfect cross, but somehow both Soares and Kohout missed
the open net. Certainly the poor playing conditions had something to do
with it, but you have to put those away.
In the end, Wegberg coach Detlef Pirsig said he was very satisfied with
the point. WSV coach Frantisek Straka would have liked the win, but it
would have only been deserved if WSV had played the 1st half as well as

Wuppertaler SV - Euskirchener TSC 3:0 (1:0)
Another ho-hum WSV performance. So far this season, the Offenbach cup game
(which they lost), is about the only "good" game they've played.
Euskirchen was crap, and in the first 20 minutes, WSV was all over them.
Minas Hantzidis opened up the scoring after only 4 minutes, as he blasted
the ball with a nice long shot. WSV continued to pressure, and Euskirchen
had a nary a chance, although Eschbach looked bad in one sequence, and
Klemmer had to save off the line. Up front, Noel Kipre and Alex Kohout
caused lots of trouble, and the former had several golden chances. James
Igwilo looked especially good in midfield, although he was expected not to
play due to injury.
However wasting chances has been the bane of WSV existance for the last
few years, let alone games. Coach Straka complained after the game that
they wasted, by his count, at least NINE goals. In the 2nd half,
Euskirchens' Alex Schmidt got his ass tossed for a 2nd yellow, and WSV
dicked around before finally banging in a couple.

Teveren was absolutely crap. "It should have been at least 5-0 at half"
stated coach Frantisek Straka. Nevertheless, at least there appears to be
some light at the end of the tunnel. Although a lot of work is left, WSV
has brought home the bacon and hopefully this will be a sign of things to
come.
As for the game itself, not much to say. It was essentially over in the
2nd minute, as Teveren's keeper Dino Breuer rushed out and tackled a WSV
forward on a breakaway, leading to a red card. Still WSV dicked around
until about the 20th minute, as Klemmer hammered Kohout's cross off the
replacement keeper, and all Slupek had to do was tap in the rebound.
However, for the rest of the half, WSV went to sleep.

traditionally the solid piece: the midfield sucked. Lots of missed passes
and generally losing the ball.
In the 1st half, things were acceptable, as WSV dominated the game. Kohout
and newcomer Noel Kipre looked dangerous in attack. In fact, it was Kohout
who put WSV ahead on Kipre's assist. However, in general, the forwards
were not getting the service from midfield, which should have put the game

Wuppertaler SV - SV Straelen 2:0 (1:0)
Another lame performance by WSV. Things started out hot, with WSV totally
dominating like they wanted to blast Straelen to smithereens. Refos had an
early chance to put WSV into the lead, but barely missed. It was left to
the outstanding Frank Klemmer to hammer one in. However, from that point
on, WSV relaxed and the guests got back into the game, even hitting the
post. In the 2nd half, continued disorganization, especially since the
most dangerous attacker, James Igwilo, and Klemmer himself, had to leave
with injuries. Luckily, Straelen was crap, and Erol Refos was finally able
to end the misery with a late goal to wrap things up.
All in all, it looks like there is a lot of work to be done if WSV expects
to contend.

A disappointing start to the Oberliga for WSV, with a totally lame
performance. Things started out well, as Alex Kohout knocked in a cross
from Peeper to give WSV the early lead. But then WSV self destructed. GK
Jochen gramse had a poor day, as his play led to at least two goals. First
his lame clearance on a cross forced Diop into a saving foul, which led to
a free kick that Hoenerbach knocked home. Then he was out of position on
Kessenich's goal. Dabovic quickly squared the match after the half, but
WSV wasted chances up front (the usual story!), and in the end, a Klemmer
foul led to Bauer's penalty and the loss.

An excellent fighting effort by WSV. The 2.Liga Offenbachers were able to
win the match through a combination of luck, experience and poor a
referee. Coach Frantisek Straka has assembled a decent team in little
time, and this performance gives hope for the upcoming Oberliga season.
Offenbach's defense showed their experience throughout the game, as their
offside trap nailed the WSV forwards repeatedly. Meanwhile, they cleverly
took advantage of their few chances, as both Dama and Becker grabbed early
goals. Dama surprised Gramse with a long shot into the upper corner.
However, the Kickers plan for an easy time then fell apart. Michael
Koepper, who had already been beaten several times, couldn't contain
himself, and got his ass tossed with the 2nd yellow card.
In the 2nd half, WSV seized control of the game, led forward by the
outstanding Frank Klemmer. The Offenbach offside trap still worked nicely,
but keeper Keffel increasingly came under pressure.
Yellow-red: Koepper (34.)
