L28 / N42 / SU buildup

Out came the engine! First thing I did was the cylinder head - it's an N42 from a '76 280Z, with a mild cam.

I also did some port matching, the pictures didn't turn out well, but here's intake and exhaust

This was pretty dumb, as that was finished up in November, 2001, five months ago. So it sits all pretty on the workbench. As of this writing, that's the most significant finished piece of the puzzle. Block is at the machine shop, getting +1mm flattops, balancing, etc.

Engine time, yeah! It's been ground .010 on the rods and mains, balanced, bored +1mm, flattop pistons, 2mm headgasket to get the compression down to 9.5. Wenttogether well, no real issues.  Runs strong from 1,500 to 4,000, then stupid silly strong to 6,000, and possibly beyond.

I wanted to clean up the intake manifolds, but didn't feel up to shelling out for a Euro balance tube, so I made my own.  After these pictures were taken, I also ground off the part numbers, seams, and casting flash.  Came out great with the wrinkle-finish black powder coating.

It has an aluminum flywheel from HKS, and I was alerted that there can be a problem with the bolts backing off.  I sure didn't want to deal with that, so I used this big ole washer from an automatic  transmission flexplate.  Don't worry... I bead blasted it before installation!
