Notice the "pickle ornaments"! The pickle ornament was used in Germany where the fir tree was decorated. After the tree had been decorated with regular ornaments, the children would look for the one "pickle ornament" hiding in the boughs of the tree. Tradition has it that St Nicholas would bring an extra gift to the child who found the "pickle ornament".
