This upper room of the Temple was used as a schoolhouse by day and a School of the Prophets in the evenings. The leaders were not only instructed in matters of the Church, but also in Hebrew and other secular subjects.

"And let the higher part (of the Temple) of the inner court be dedicated unto me for the school of mine apostles, saith Son Ahman; or, in other words, Alphus; or, in other words, Omegus; even Jesus Christ your Lord. Amen" (D&C 95:17)
