President Hinckley announced the building of the Conference Center in 1996. This building would seat 21,000 and give many more people the opportunity to attend General Conference. The building was dedicated on Oct 8, 2000.
In General Conference on March 31, 2001, President Hinckley introduced the Perpetual Education Fund. This fund has helped over 80,000 young Latter-day Saints from numerous countries upgrade their educational skills and obtain better employment.
